October 2018 Douglas County Historical Society MN Scarecrow Contest

We are excited to announce we are hosting our first Douglas County Historical Society Scarecrow Contest. We would like to personally invite any and all community members to consider entering as some of our first participants. A scarecrow team can be comprised of any combination of individuals, clubs, businesses, groups, families, or even an individual person. The entry fee per scarecrow is $3, all of which will go into a winner’s pool.

Building a scarecrow is a great way to get excited for the harvest season and spend some time bonding over an outdoor craft project before winter. We encourage punny names for Scarecrows! If possible, please take a digital photo of your scarecrow makers with your finished scarecrow that we may post in the event you win. Our only request is that scarecrows are family friendly.

You may drop off your scarecrow anytime October 1-12 at 1219 Nokomis Street, Alexandria MN, during DCHS Business Hours (M-F, 9-4) with the $3 entry fee. We will take your entry fee and contact/scarecrow information inside our office when you drop off your scarecrow. Posts for hanging scarecrows will be available if yours does not stand on its own. Scarecrows will be displayed on the lawn next to the Douglas County Historical Society.

Winners will be determined by popular vote October 15-30. Votes may be submitted through an online vote posted on our Douglas County Historical Society Minnesota Facebook page, or in person at our location at 1219 Nokomis Street.

We will contact winners by phone and announce them on Halloween. First place winners will receive 50% of the winner’s pool plus a free pie from our home-made pie fundraiser. Second place winners will receive 30% of the winner’s pool. Third place winners will receive 20% of the winner’s pool.

Thank you for your time and we hope to see your scarecrow soon! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
