One of the treasures at the Douglas County Historical Society MN, is our collection of Family Files. These files contain information collected by our researchers and by family members over the decades.
They may include:
- Local newspaper clippings
- Family genealogies and histories submitted by other descendants
- Biographies from local history publications
- Records from the County.
You can also add items to your Family’s File. Have you pinpointed where they came from in Norway? Taken photos or documented information about your ancestors? New things are being added to our Family Files collection all the time.

New files are added and additions are made to many of the files as part of the ongoing genealogy work in the downstairs research library at DCHS MN.
This bank of file cabinets contains our Family Files collection, and our extensive obituary collection. Donated family history books and local history publications are stored above some of the cabinets.
This open file drawer shows how the Family Files are organized. For common names, such as Johnson, other identifying information helps us to zero in on the right family.
The Family Files at Douglas County Historical Society are an excellent place to save copies of your genealogy documentation for future generations of your family.
